About the Kitten Alliance
We are one of the only rescues in the country built for neonatal and critically ill kittens: the janky ones nobody else will take. Since 2019 we've cared for more than 2,000 of them. We hold an 85–90% save rate, even though most of our kittens arrive under five weeks old or seriously sick or injured. We're a small, hands-on team, and every person here matters.
The job
-
Kitten care. Clean kennels, feed, and give daily medications (oral and subcutaneous; we'll train you), thoroughly and on schedule. This takes 1–4 hours each shift, depending on the season.
-
Adoptions. Introduce adopters to kittens and finalize adoptions.
-
Front desk. Answer phones and messages and greet visitors. Be warm and patient with everyone, whether they're an adopter, a panicked foster, a first-time volunteer, or a donor.
-
Assist with foster hand-offs and support as needed. Send kittens out to foster homes with supplies, meds, and instructions, and check them back in when they return.
The honest part
Read this before you apply. It's the real job.
-
Some kittens won't make it. We take the sickest ones on purpose, and we can't save them all.
-
Contagious disease is part of the work. Panleukopenia, ringworm, and upper respiratory infections are real. You'll follow strict PPE and cleaning protocols every time, no shortcuts.
-
It's physical and messy. Expect poop, bleach, laundry, hours on your feet, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
-
The plan changes. A sick kitten or a full lobby can blow up your to-do list.
-
You'll tell people no. Kindly, clearly, and without caving when they push back.
Who we're looking for
We can teach animal care. We can't teach attitude. We're looking for someone who:
-
Genuinely likes people, and it shows on the phone and at the counter.
-
Really cares about kittens, especially the sick, messy, fragile, or sassy ones.
-
Learns fast and remembers what they're taught.
-
Communicates clearly, both face to face and in written handoffs.
-
Works well on a small team and follows policies.
-
Asks questions when they don't understand sometimes.
-
Notices what needs doing and do it without being asked.
Rescue, shelter, vet clinic, or customer service experience is a plus, not a requirement.
Must be age 18+, have reliable transportation, have the ability to lift 40 lbs, and have availability every Saturday, and Sunday.
