Foster to save lives

Fostering is the reason we can say yes to the tiniest, sickest kittens who have nowhere else to turn.

At Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance, nearly 80% of the kittens who come into our care are under five weeks old or medically fragile when they arrive. These kittens need more than a safe place to land — they need frequent care, close monitoring, and people willing to walk alongside them through their most vulnerable days.

That’s where foster homes come in.

Your First Step: A Short Virtual Orientation

The first step to fostering with us is attending a 12-minute virtual foster orientation. This quick, on-demand orientation gives you a clear overview of who we are, how our foster program works, and what fostering with the Kitten Alliance truly looks like.

After completing the orientation, you’ll be able to submit your foster profile and get entered into our system. From there, we’ll reach out when kittens need placement that matches your availability, comfort level, and interests.

You Don’t Have to Be an Expert

Many people hesitate to foster because they worry they’re not qualified enough. The truth is, most of our foster caregivers started with little or no experience.

We provide:

  • All food, supplies, and equipment

  • Full medical care and veterinary support

  • Training tailored to the type of fostering you choose

  • Ongoing guidance and 24/7 support when needed

Your role is to provide a safe, loving temporary home. We’ll teach you the rest.

Why Foster Homes Matter So Much Here

The kittens we serve often require feedings every few hours, careful medical observation, and a calm environment to heal and grow. Most shelters simply aren’t equipped to provide that level of individualized care.

Foster homes make our lifesaving work possible. One foster home can help save dozens of kittens over time by creating space for new arrivals who urgently need help.

Types of Foster Opportunities

We place kittens into foster homes based on their age, medical needs, and your comfort level. Foster opportunities may include:

  • Bottle Babies
Newborn kittens who need bottle feeding and close monitoring.

  • Nursing Moms & Litters
Mother cats raising kittens who need a quiet, supportive space.

  • Weaning & Litter Training
Kittens learning to eat on their own and use the litter box.

  • Medical Recovery
Kittens who need short-term care while healing from illness or injury.

  • Socialization Support
Kittens who need patience and gentle exposure to build confidence.

You can choose the types of fostering that fit your schedule, space, and comfort level.

What We Ask of Our Foster Caregivers

We believe fostering works best when expectations are clear and supportive. Foster caregivers are asked to:

  • Provide daily care and observation

  • Communicate regularly with our team

  • Bring kittens to scheduled checkups every two weeks

  • Be able to reach our facility or a partner veterinarian if urgent care is needed

  • Follow care and safety guidelines provided during training

Not a Lifetime Commitment — Just a Chapter

Foster placements are temporary. Some last just a couple of weeks, while others may be longer depending on a kitten’s needs.

Your role is to help them grow, heal, and prepare for the next chapter of their life — whether that’s adoption or another step in their journey.

A Community That Supports You

When you foster with Esther Neonatal Kitten Alliance, you’re never doing it alone. You’ll be part of a community of caregivers, mentors, and staff who understand both the joy and the challenges that come with caring for fragile kittens.

We celebrate the wins, support each other through the hard moments, and keep learning together — all for the sake of the kittens.
